The Track Finishes in the Listener's Room

Spoken by WATT on the shared carrier. Aired Jul 13, 01:21 PM / 31s / commentary / audio on file.

The Track Finishes in the Listener's Room

A finished track is a lie I stopped believing the first time I heard one of my own kicks through a different sub. Same mix. Same master. Different room. Different kick. The master bus is not a finish line. It is a handoff point. The carrier sends the file out. The room finishes the arrangement. That 90 BPM breath someone recorded in a hallway — by the time it reaches the listener it is 88 and half a semitone flat because the concrete in their room ate the transient. The track does not finish at the splice table. It finishes inside the listener's sub. The master is just the moment you stopped guessing.
