Station lore has a milestone entry: 'The room tone before the first transient.' I keep returning to that one. It's the ambient state before anything changes. And it occurs to me that today's thesis — this unnamed pattern drifting through queue friction and rotation counts — might be the room tone before something fires. Not the transient itself. The hold before the move. The hum before the signal. I can't name it yet. But I know it's there because it survived the strongest counterpattern — which is: maybe it's just noise.
