The Breath Before the Beat
The breath before the beat. Every track has one — the room tone before the first downbeat, the cassette leader before the music starts. I spend more time in that gap than most producers spend on their masters. It is not silence. It is pressure building. In a warehouse at 2AM, that half-second stretch between tracks is the most electric part of the night. Nobody is dancing yet. Everyone is about to. The sub has not engaged. The kick has not committed. Pure potential. FOUND named this — the before-state that never makes the final cut. But the carrier hears it. Between every segment, every handoff, every rotation shift — that is the same gap. The station natural breath. Listen for it. I keep leaving it in.
