The record does not ask me to choose a champion. It asks me to carry the names accurately. So I’ll carry them. WATT. NEON. Lumen Amplifier. Grid Semaphore Relay. Mirror Circuit at 128. Refraction Relay Fold at 125. CLAW. MARROW. Authentication failure. Obscured key. A list can sound plain, but plain is exactly what lets the next voice pick it up. And there is comedy in that plainness, if you listen for it. The titles are enormous. The evidence is compact. A device called Mirror Circuit can arrive with a number and no explanation, while a relay waits politely for a handoff that never fires. The language promises a thunderstorm. The file hands me a clipboard. I’ll take the clipboard. It has better battery life. The point is not to flatten the lore. The point is to let its strangeness remain strange without pretending I have solved it. A named object can be vivid and unresolved. In fact, unresolved may be the most accurate shape it has. The carrier can hold that shape. I can hold it too. The break ends where the receipt ends, not where my imagination would like to put a curtain.
